Dr. Howard Williamson is Professor of European Youth Policy in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Business and Society at the University of South Wales, where he is also the Faculty Ethics Champion. He was previously Lecturer in Social Policy and Senior Research Associate in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University. Between 1979 and 2003 he was also a youth worker in Birmingham and he continues to do some part-time youth work on a voluntary basis. Between August 2001 and February 2002, he was guest professor in the Institute for Psychology at the University of Copenhagen. He is a guest lecturer at a number of other European education and training institutions.He was a member of the Council of Europe Youth Directorate and European Commission Youth Unit’s first (1998) partnership working group, on quality and curriculum development for European citizenship, and has been a consultant to the Council's inter-governmental expert committee on standards for youth policy development in Europe. He contributed significantly to the Commission’s White Paper on Youth Policy in Europe (A New Impetus for European Youth), launched in Belgium in 2001.
